POSITION TITLE: Mental Health Counselor

COMPENSATION: Salary based on Board Approved Certified Compensation Plan 

CLASSIFICATION: Fulltime Exempt
REPORTS TO: Administrative Designee

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Mental Health Counselor will be responsible for providing services related to the
delivery of mental health care to assigned clients at the designated school location and
will provide consultation services to the school staff to support the overall mental health
goals of the school.

 

The counselor will attend required program training and conduct required program activities, including implementation of social emotional learning strategies. The counselor will implement responsibilities as recommended by the American School Counselor Association.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides direct mental health services, individual/group counseling services, and crisis intervention to assigned students
  2. Maintains regular contact with the parent/guardian of each student (if appropriate)
  3. Furnishes required reports to CPS, legal system and other involved agencies, as
    necessary
  4. Participate on the District Crisis Team
  5. Classroom presentations
  6. Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings
  7. Provides consultation for school staff regarding mental health issues of clients (as
    appropriate)
  8. Conducts group counseling as necessary
  9. Participates in the collection of mental health information and student outcomes data to
    be used for monitoring the overall performance and effectiveness of services provided.
  10. Provides complete and timely documentation to support services rendered
  11. Maintains 70% direct service requirement
  12. Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  1. Must possess a strong knowledge of the common diagnoses and treatments for school-aged
    children and possess the skills necessary to facilitate positive change in a school
  2. Knowledge of FERPA, HIPPA and special education
  3. Knowledge of brief therapy theories and interventions based off the strengths perspective

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
1. Required - A Master’s degree from an accredited University or College in the field of Psychology,
Social Work, Counseling Education or Human Services field.
2. Required – Arizona Department of Education School Counselor Certification

 

CLEARANCES:
(Perspective employee must have the following clearances before servicing students.)
Required - Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Valid Arizona Driver's License


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Travel is required to the schools
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to deal effectively with students, staff and outside agencies.
