Position Description:  ESS Specialist: Compliance

 

Reports To:  Director of Exceptional Student Services

 

Classification: Exempt Instructional Specialist

Certified Compensation Plan Salary based on Education and Experience

 

Purpose Statement:  The ESS Specialist: Compliance will be responsible for substantially and effectively assisting school sites and the Director in the task of providing leadership and compliance support of all special education programs and related services preschool through grade 12. The person in this role will be expected to spend a significant amount of time at school sites across the district to provide support.This person will be responsible for assisting in the coordination, development and implementation of all Exceptional Student Services throughout MUSD with a focus on compliance. The Program Specialist assists the school sites and Director in planning, implementing, administering, and monitoring programs, services, and budgetary appropriations as directed.  This person will provide training and in-service, resources and support to staff, as well as monitor programs and services to ensure that each student is provided with an appropriate educational experience, in compliance with State and Federal mandates. This person will assist in the monitoring of legally binding documentation pertaining to the MET/IEP process as well as valid and timely data submissions to ADE.  This person will assist in the monitoring and compliance of 504 accommodation plans district-wide as well as provide support to the general education staff in the development of 504 plans.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see and use repetitive motions, While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds of materials, etc.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.  The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

Education and/or Experience: Must hold a Master’s Degree from an accredited graduate school in a field of Special Education and 3 years experience in special education

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Arizona Early Childhood Handicapped Certificate or valid Arizona Special Education with one of the following approved areas:  Cross-Categorical K-12, Early Childhood Special Education Birth-5 yrs, Specialized Special Education K-12, Severely and Profoundly Disabled Special Education K-12.
